About Us

Building Resilient Families and Thriving Communities

Strengthening families, empowering children, building brighter futures.

Our mission is to strengthen families and help children reach their full potential through information, education, and support.

We follow the Strengthening Families approach, focusing on five key protective factors: parental resilience, social connections, concrete support, knowledge of parenting and child development, and children’s social and emotional competence.

Empowering Families & Supporting Communities Since 1965

The Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) program is part of Self Help Inc., a Community Action Agency founded in 1965 during President Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” Serving over 10,000 households annually across 31 Massachusetts communities, Self Help Inc. offers programs designed to meet the region’s most pressing needs, including long-standing services like Head Start, Fuel Assistance, and Lead Abatement.

Originally known as Community Partnerships for Children, CFCE began in 1996 to expand affordable, high-quality preschool opportunities for working families. Over time, its focus has evolved to meet changing state priorities, continuing today with goals centered on supporting family engagement and child development.
